It is with heavy hearts we are informing you that we had to put our beloved Gabe to sleep yesterday, March 5, 2007.
We had taken him in last week, Thursday, to have his routine Phenobarbital and potassium bromide (seizure medication) levels checked. He had become bloated in the abdomen earlier last week (which we thought he ate something that he needed to pass; which is the same reason he had 8" of his small intestines removed last May). When we asked the vet about it, he did an x-ray and found out he was leaking fluid into his body. After having blood work and the abdomen fluid tested, we found out Friday afternoon that his liver was shutting down due to the seizure medications. So, we had to make the difficult decision to put him to rest.
Fortunately this past weekend was a Madison Flyball tournament, so all our teammates were able to say goodbye to him. Even his originally owner, Jessica, was there to say goodbye. He loved this sport so much and still wanted to race this past weekend (even though he couldn't). He earned his Flyball FG40K title (40,000 points) on September 17, 2006. He was such an added asset to our flyball team as he was fast and consistent. When we were approached in October 2003 to have Gabe join our family, I think Carl said it best, "Why would you turn down a Porsche if someone was giving it to you?" He was on our team that allowed us to achieve our fastest time to date of 18.303 seconds. He has traveled to Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Colorado and Texas for Flyball tournaments. He was one of our quietest family dogs, unless you were talking with him, then he would love to talk back. The only time he would bark was at the birdies flying around. I remember one time at Dog Fest (by the coliseum); he got loose because he had seen the birdies flying around; by the time we were able to catch up to him, he was already swimming in the middle of pond trying to catch the birdies.
We were so fortunate to have him in our lives, if only for a short time. He will be missed greatly!!!!!
Carl, Vickie, Alisha and Danielle

We are very excited that we qualified for U-FLI NATIONALS!!!! Our team traveled to compete in Mesquite Texas in November 2006. What a great experience!!! Thank you to all our sponsors, especially Animal Hospital of Sun Prairie, Deer Grove Pet Clinic, Cottage Grove & Animal Health Clinic of Cambridge.
Paw Position is a small, friendly flyball team
based out of Madison, WI. Our goals are having fun with our dogs and each
other, earning points and titles for all team dogs and placing somewhere besides
last in whatever division we are running in.
Paw Position, as a team, is very new. Our team members however, are not. You may remember some of us as UW Dawgs. We have undergone some changes which meant a name change for the team as well. But the basic core team has been playing flyball for almost 10 years now.
Come meet our team, both canine and human, and explore the sport of flyball. We guarantee it is a sport you don't want to miss.
